Teat ends should be cleansed until the pledgets or cotton balls appear unsoiled after the last scrub. WebInflammatory mastitis occurs when the ductal narrowing persists or worsens. The breast becomes red, hot, swollen, and painful with systemic flu-like symptoms. A fever does not necessarily indicate an infection is present as it can be a response to the inflammation.
